Sustainability of agricultural growth is of prime importance for food security of the ever increasing population. Agricultural biodiversity provides not only food and income but also raw materials for clothing shelter medicines breeding new varieties and performs other services such as maintenance of soil fertility etc. Predominant patterns of agricultural growth have eroded biodiversity in agro ecosystems including plant genetic resources livestock insects and soil organisms. Such erosion has caused economic losses jeopardizing productivity and food security and leading to broader social costs.

There is need to accelerate the pace of dissemination of information on these aspects for quick adoption in increasing the bio resource utilization. To meet the endeavour an attempt has been made to discuss various aspects of biodiversity at one platform. (jacket)
