Climate Change is receiving a high level and focused attention in India. The announcement of a National Action Plan on Climate Change, in June 2008 was seen as a notable development as the first step towards coherent strategy for low carbon pathway for Indian economy. Prime Ministers Climate Change Council is comprehensively examining India's response to this global challenge. Our National Environment Policy adopted in 2006 along with National Green Tribunal Act 2010 National Clean Energy Development Fund, National Environmental Protection Authority Integrated Energy Policy 2008 etc Ministries of Environment and Forests and New and Renewable Energy etc promotes the adoption of cleaner technologies and bio friendly disposal of waste. We have promoted measures like energy efficiency and encouraged the use of new and renewable sources of energy. We have emerged as the country with the 4th largest wind power capacity in the world. Other sources of renewable energy like solar energy are also being tapped. Indias approach to climate change involves steps to cut out carbon emissions and harness the potential of green business and technologies.

Under the Green India Programme we propose to launch a massive afforestation project covering six million hectares of degraded forest land which is probably the worlds largest. We are encouraging reusing and recycling to reduce waste. Water is a precious life giving resource and we must use every drop of water efficiently. Rain water harvesting is important in maximizing the utilization of water. And much more towards making an ever green India.
