The book aims at depicting the miserable condition of Dalits in Indian Society as presented in the novels of Mulk Raj Anand. Some section of people is at the bottom of the social system in India due to the caste system. They are the underprivileged class and they have to struggle hard for their survival in Indian social system. They are bound to work hard and earn less. As a result they are bound to remain poor and bear the insult hurled on them. even after Independence, not much improvement is discernible in their plight. Mulk Raj Anand as a novelist has presented the real picture of these underprivileged Dalits who have no other alternative but to serve the privileged class in society. But Anand's novels are not merely social document but they are the beautiful literary works presenting the emotions and sentiments of his heroes who try their best to chalk out their path and live like human beings.
