From the Introduction: The present work includes about 4500 references covering the following aspects: papers on taxonomy, external morphology, ecology, phytogeography, utilization, cytology, anatomy, embryology, morphology and palynology, having discussion or bearing on taxonomy and phylogeny, foreign works on those genera which are represented by some species in India as such works are very useful during revisionary works particularly for drawing up keys, for locating types and for solving nomenclatural problems, papers on agronomy which gives useful information on cultivation, varietal differences and occurrences, papers on pests and pathogens, if they are of commercial significance, important papers on grasslands and fodders, foreign publications which, though not dealing with Indian taxa, yet, give ideas for new fields or methods of research on grasses.
