From the Preface: Ethnobotany is a fast growing subject which comprises a large number of sub-disciplines and interdisciplinary approaches eg. Ethnobryology, ethnolichenology, ethno-medicobotany, ethno-pharmacology, ethno-agriculture, ethno-musicology, ethno-ecology, ethno-narcotics, ethno-archaeology, ethno-linguistics, ethno-conservation and several others. Being concerned with human society a good number of terms related to anthropology, traditions, culture, folklores are also frequently used in this subject. Organized research on ethnobotany in India started about sixty years ago in 1955 hardly five publications existed on the subject. As the concepts and dimensions of the subject expanded, its national relevance was soon established.
