"With the opening up of the hitherto isolated areas of Lahul, Zanskar and Ladakh of the Western Trans-Himalayan region, to the outside world, and with the developments taking place in various fields, especially transport and communication, vestiges of cultural heritage in the area is under threat and in several cases completely lost or is on the verge of destruction. In fact, whatever records remains also posed problem regarding their interpretation, since these are in various scripts and dialects/languages. The present book marks an important step in the effort of bringing together the material so as to preserve them for posterity and to make the outside world understand these little known regions more closely.
