From the foreword: "In the recent years, the need for undertaking and cataloguing floristic diversity in biodiversity rich areas in the country has been realised to be of great value. Realising the importance of this, the Botanical Survey of India has started intensive explorations and studies in areas which have not been studied thoroughly and the Namdapha Tiger Reserve which is rich in biodiversity has been taken up for such intensive floristic surveys and preparing an account of the plant wealth. The B.S.I. conducted surveys from 1983 to 1994 and gathered information on its plant wealth related to lichens, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms & angiosperms and their diversity met in different ecological hebitats in the proposed Namdapha Biosphere Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh. Besides, ethnobotanically important plants, medicinal and wild relatives of cultivated plants as well as fauna of proposed reserve, etc. In all 1119 species spreadover 639 genera belonging to 215 different families of nonflowering and flowering plants have been described. Correct botanical names, relevent synonyms, short description, phenological data with their range of distribution have been provided for each species."
