"A considerable amount of research work has been published on the subject classification and cataloguing. The books in libraries of any appreciable size are arranged according to an accepted and agreed upon system and the arrangement is generally referred to as classification. No matter what the classification scheme, the card catalogue serves as a primary source of reference in providing access to a particular book by a variety of approaches. Research is still going in the various aspects of this subject as it provides a pivot to every library. However, duplication remains a problem even with improved communications. The present work aspires to aid such scholars by providing them with the basic structure to facilitate their work. The work of this up to date compilation as a reference book lies in its use by those for whom it is intended." (jacket)
