From the preface: "Covering a total area of about 44,222 sq km (27 39-30 55’ N latitude and 74 28-77 36 E’ longitude), the state of Haryana came into existence in 1966 as a consequence of bifurcation of Punjab. No published state-level flora of Haryana exists. This prompted us to provide a means for determining the various taxa which comprise the flora of Haryana state, to give the currently accepted nomenclature of the taxa, their important synonyms and other information which may prove useful to those interested in the study of plants of the area. The book starts with a concise introduction and includes keys to the families, genera and species mostly based on macroscopical characters to facilitate easy identification of plants in the field. Information on medicinal and economic uses of plants have also been provided wherever possible, as well as flowering and fruiting periods for all the plants. There are also a number of plant species which are exclusive to this region. The present publication will overcome in large measure the paucity of information on the flora of Haryana.
"The flora includes over one thousand species belonging to 586 genera and 132 families. Some illustrations and colour photographs of selected plants have been provided to facilitate easy identification. Short descriptions of all plants have also been given."
