"The present Encyclopaedia of two volume entitled "Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Pollution and Ecology" comprises "Articles pertaining to the discipline of biodiversity, environmental pollution and ecology". The editors are grateful to all the contributors who responded promptly by making available their papers and it is the overwhelming response which has catalytic impact upon us, to complete the task of publishing this volume. Because of overwhelming response from the contributors the proceeding of 11 All India Congress of Zoology is being published in two volume as it was not possible to accommodate all the articles in one volume.

These volumes are basically proceedings of the "11 All India Congress of Zoology" and "National Seminar on Population Explosion in relation to Environment and National Development: The Challenges and Management in New Millennium", which were held from 17-19 November, 2000 at B.N. Mandal University, Laloo Nagar, Madhepura and was inaugurated by Sri Shankar Tekriwal, Minister of Transport, Govt. of Bihar, Patna and Md. Shah Nawaz Hussain, Union Minister of State for HRD, Govt. of India graced the occasion as Chief Guest. During inaugural session about 20 eminent/contemporary/promising Zoologists of the 20 century were awarded Gold Medals by Z.S.I. for their outstanding contribution in the field of their respective specialization.

The editors wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Rameshwar Prasad, Registrar, Dr. Shiv Nandan Yadav, C.C.D.C., other officers of the B.N. Mandal University, Principals of Constituent College under the jurisdiction of B.N. Mandal University for their untiring efforts and kind cooperation to make this Congress a grand success.
