"The most important feature of this book is the authenticity of its subject matter as it has been drawn from or based upon recognised sources of Mohammedan Law-the Quran, Ahadis and Sunna Ijamaa, legislation and case law. In order to ensure correct interpretation of various Surahs, "The Holy Quran (English translation of the meanings and commentary)" revised and edited by the presidency of Islamic researchers in pursuance of a royal decree issued by king Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia was referred to and consulted. Another feather in the cap of the original author as also revising authors is that they have given due weightage to the views of both the schools of thought-the Sunni school comprising of Hanafis, Malikis, Shafeis, Hanbalis etc. And the Shia school comprising of Ithnaasharis, the Islailis and the Zaidis.
"The book, unlike its title, is not merely a treatise on Mohammedan Law, but it also gives historical background of the impact of Islam on the social structure of the Arab world. Apart from this it provides authentic information regarding various aspects of Islamic jurisprudence, sources of Islamic laws and rules of interpretation. The author has tried to gather, collect and make full use of all materials available in the Islamic Scriptures, Old Treatises etc." (jacket)
