"Santo Datta is an art critic, art curator and scholar who writes extensively on modern and contemporary Indian art. He has been an art critic with The Indian Express, The Hindu, the Hindustan Times and The Pioneer successively for more than thirty years, contributing to the arts-page of these publication. In the sixties, he also ran a column in The Tribune called 'Cultural Panorama'.

He contributed the catalogue essay for the centenary exhibition of Mukul Dey's at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi. He edited and wrote the introduction for The vertical woman: reminiscences of B.C. Sanyal. He was also the member of the advisory committee at the NGMA, New Delhi in 1993-95.

Santo Datta is currently working on curating a retrospective on the works of the eminent artist Satish Gujral at the NGMA, New Delhi. He has also been the guest editor at Lalit Kala Akademi for the Lalit Kala Contemporary Journal in 2005." (jacket)
