"In 1970 there were only five National Parks in India namely Kanha, Bhandavgarh, Shivpuri, Thadoba and Corbelt. The number of these National Parks has now risen to eighty. The statewise distribution of these parks is as Andhra Pradesh one, Arunachal Pradesh two. Assam and Bihar has two National Parks. Goa one and Gujarat four and next Haryana one, Himachal Pradesh two and Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Kerala four, five and three respectively. Wildlife tourism must convey a message. A tourist after visiting the park must return a wiser person. The tourists should also be apprised of the rules and code of conduct to be observed in the park as not to stray from the main park. Noise and alien sounds startle wild animals. Do not blow horns or talk loudly. Treat the park as sanctum sanctorium of nature, wear incaspicuous Khaki alive or brown clothing which blend well with natural surroundings and lastly do not pollute the park. While discussing wildlife tourism the mode of transport of tourists inside the National Park should be considered. It has been said more than once that due to habitat destruction and unabated hunting in the past, the wildlife in our country has been depleted considerably. The ancient Indian people appreciated and acknowledge the value and importance of wildlife and its habitats." (jacket)
