From the foreword: "Kangchenjunga Conservation Area (KCA) in the Eastern Himalaya is the newest addition to Nepal's protected area system. World's third highest peak Kangchenjunga (8,586 m) lies within this protected area. Stunning natural landscapes and mountain views capture the imagination of any traveler to the area. Not only the region is famous for its scenic beauty but it also boasts a rich array of habitats and wildlife. A total of 280 species of birds have been recorded so far and this is listed as one of the Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Nepal.

This field guide on birds of Kangchenjunga will certainly help to broaden the knowledge of the local communities on the avifauna of the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area that is highly important towards the conservation of birds as well as the overall environment in a sustainable process. WWF Nepal firmly believes that only with the active and direct participation of local communities and some economic incentives returned to the local, future of protected areas could be more secure."
