"An in-depth study incorporating all the major aspects of groundwater exploration, development and exploitation for a large urban conglomerate in the Indo-Gangetic plain has been presented in this book to serve as a case study for the region as whole. The text covers the application of exploration techniques and evaluation of the results in determining aquifer parameters, water quality, well efficiency, well loss and mathematical modelling for draw down in the well field. An appraisal of the existing water supply system has also been included with specific recommendations.

Emphasis has been given to the practical application of methods in data collection, analysis and interpretation, test procedure, design practices and use of formulae for rapid appraisal. In addition ten computer programs in BASIC (HP-85, P.C) have been presented. These programs particularly the interpretation of VES curve, estimation of statistical parameters, solution of draw down (ground water model) for multiple wells and determination of optimum diameter of pipes have wider application and can be used as a matter of routine. The book shall prove to be useful to hydrogeologists, civil and irrigation engineers, town planners and professionals involved in the related fields." (jacket)
