"This book incorporates an in-depth and detailed study of erosional and depositional environment of Siwalik landscape, Jammu. It describes the landform features, their interaction and relationship, in a supple and lucid manner through the application of an empirical, statistical and laboratory techniques. Such techniques have also been applied for the study of pedogeomorphological and hydrological environment. A detailed systematic analysis of different parameters such as land use categories, cropping pattern, agricultural productivity, climatic classification and water balance evidences contributed for the impact of morphology on agriculture have also been evaluated. Besides, incorporating data from diverse sources like climatology, hydrology, pedology, geology and agro-climatology, the author feels pleasure while elaborating some new models in each of the eleven chapters of the book. The most important feature of this book is that it represents the first organized review of the knowledge about agro-climatic zones and climatic classification.

An innovative approach and creative synthesis of some recent research in the Siwalik has been included in this book. Thus the book is unique in this respect and is first of its kind. The work will prove to be of immense interest for geomorphologists, environmentalists, pedogeomorphological researcher, irrigation planners and decision makers in semi-arid regions." (jacket)
