"The book entitled "A Text Book of Forest Trees Entomology" is a maiden attempt to provide a document to which contains information about insect pests as well as diseases of some important tree species. It is a sincere attempt to provide the basic information about these two important components, which form an important part of the ecosystem to the people who are interested in the study of insects and diseases associated with the forest trees. Up till now there is no document as such which contains information about the tree species useful in agroforestry systems. This lacuna will be filled to some extent by this book. This is an attempt keeping in view the requirements of students pursuing studies in forestry. This book can also be helpful to the personal of forest department who are not professional entomologists but encounter pest problems in their day to day routine. They will be able to identify some of the commonly encountered insects in the forests by taking help of this book particularly the coloured plates in the book. This book is a maiden attempt to give collective information about insect pest and diseases of timber fodder and common agro forestry trees. The books earlier written have lot of information on the forest insects but there was need of a book which along with the information of insects can also give measures for their control and IPM in forestry. Along with discussions on biology and control of some common insect pests, a detailed discussion has been made on IPM in forests and monitoring of pest populations. As we all know monitoring is a pre requisite for successful management of a pest. So this part has also been discussed in length in the book.
