"A tree in my village is a piece from Zindabahar. It recounts in graphic detail the story of a mighty Arjuna tree in his village home. The visual, pictorial quality of Paritosh Sen's writing is apparent even in translations, bringing to life a period of his childhood when this majestic tree seemed to dominate his life. I cannot recall any other Bengali writer in decades, except possibly the late Kamal Kumar Majumdar, who possessed this painterly quality. Sen is acutely perceptive of the size and shape, the colour and the texture of the things he describes and possesses the power to record them vividly."
