From the preface: "Although, there are a number of books on chemistry and technology of essential oils, there are very few publications which deal with various agricultural aspects of these plants. With the increase in demand for essential oils, there has been considerable development in agrotechnology of these crops during the last 30 years and as such there was a need for a publication which deals with various aspects of agrotechnology, which includes genetics, agronomy, post-harvest techniques, etc. The present publication is an attempt to compile most of the data available on agricultural aspects of these plants in addition to origin, geographical distribution as well as present world production of these crops. An attempt has also been made to describe general chemistry as well as the present uses of these essential oils. As enough data are not available on a number of plants some of the information included in this manuscript are based on author's own experience in growing these plants for the last 25 years."
