The Abhidharmakosa is one of the most important and influential Psycho-metaphysical literatures of Buddhism which was composed by the well-known early Buddhologist Vasubandhu (4th/5th century CE). Vasubandhu was born into a Barhmin family of ancient Indian province of Gandhara (Peshawar of modern Pakistan). He became a Buddhist Bhikkhu in Sarvastivada School of Buddhism. He studied Vaibhasika Abhidharma in Kashmir and at the conclusion of his studies, Vasubandhu composed his most famous treatise Abhidharmakosa. He later in life converted to also another influential Buddhist author. Vasubandhu also compose several other treatises. (jacket)
