The Brahmasutras of Badarayana is one of the most important treaties on the Vedanta systems. Many modern works on this treatise are the evidences to its significant status in the Vedanta philosophy and Hindu religion as well. The present book entitled 'A Critical Edition of Brahmasutras of Badarayana' studies the Brahmasutras aims at an exposition of the Brahmasutraspatha as it is. The basic material of this book is the Brahmasutrapatha published with its ten commentaries of great Bhasyakaras (commentators) as well as the Brahmasutrapatha (Mulamatra) preserved in the manuscripts. The manuscripts of the Brahmasutrapatha are in different scripts. The study of the Brahmasutrapatha is based on the collation of more than two hundred manuscripts. It is organized with the view of presenting the different characteristics of the Brahmasutra text. It contains the text both in Devanagari and Roman scripts. The variant readings of the sutras based on the collation of the manuscripts and their critical analysis are the most important parts of the book. Besides the present study of the Brahmasutra text includes the meaning of the words in the sutras and their translation. The Brahmasutra text is pregnant with the philosophical doctrines introduced in the Upanisads. The notes included in the present study of the Brahmasutrapatha tries to simplify the philosophical thoughts preserved in the Brahmasutra text. These notes are resorted to the main commentaries and sub commentaries on the Brahmasutra text.

The Brahmasutrapatha is one of the most important treatises on the Vedata system. In the course of long time the meaning of it became difficult to understand for a common student. Number of expository works on the Brahmasutra disappeared. However the first complete commentary well known as Sarirakamimamsabhasya of the Adya Sankaracarya one of the most important commentaries on the Brahmasutra significantly contributed to the exposition of the Brahmasutras. The present book therefore includes the Sanskrit text of Sankaracarya's commentary which may support the study of the Brahmasutrapatha and it may be easy for the reader to understand the exposition of the Brahmasutras which may be an aid to understand the meaning of the Brahmasutra.
