"The book brings together a number of interesting research papers on the important issue of economic reforms formulated and implemented in India since 1991. The authors include eminent experts and research scholars in the academic and other fields. The papers discuss thoroughly and critically many important macro and micro level aspects of the reforms and underline the need for modifications of the reforms. The areas covered in the book include agriculture, industry, non-farm, power, power loom, banking, external and other sectors, growth and poverty, food security, globalization and trade union movements, etc. Valuable suggestions are presented with regard to policy formulations and practical implementation of the reforms. The papers included here are the revised and updated versions presented at national seminar on "A Decade of Economic Reforms in India: Retrospect and Prospect" held at Nagarjuna University, Guntur, A.P. In order to make this a compact and meaningful volume, an overview has also been added. The volume is highly useful to students, teachers, researchers and policy makers." (jacket)
