Bibliography on Pharmacognosy of Medicinal Plants/Roma Mitra. 1985, 735 p., 11" X 81/2", $17.

From the preface: "During the last quarter of a century or so the pharmacognostic research on indigenous drugs and medicinal plants has made rapid strides, resulting in the generation of a vast amount of literature. Pharmacognosy has steadily grown during these years into a dynamic, wide-planked and multidimensional study, embracing in its fold biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and other collateral disciplines. Retrieval of knowledge from the vast store of published as well as unpublished information of a broadbased science like pharmacognosy has all along been a task in itself. This has now been made easy by the present bibliography, which includes some 12000 references, covering modern pharmacognostical researches conducted throughout the world, upto the year 1980, as well as the ancient Indian literature on medicinal plants. Bibliography has been presented in two parts, the first delineating pharmacognostical studies and the second giving the general bibliography. Six, very useful, indices have been provided, the first five carrying lists of botanical names and families, vernacular names, ancient manuscripts and printed herbals, journals and books consulted, and the last one as an authors index. It is needless to emphasize that this voluminous bibliography for surpasses all previous endeavours in this direction."
