"Information explosion is one of the impacts of invention of printing technology and the emergence of democratic governments. The ever-accelerating growth of literature has put forth the need for bibliographic control.

Since 1960s information retrieval (IR) and its auxiliary aspects have been of interest of the LIS professionals. As a result a large number of documents have been published on IR and its various aspects. The sheer number (of documents) itself is an indicator of LIS professionals interest in IR.

Bibliography of literature on IR was needed to help in sustaining the interest of LIS professionals in IR for it makes available the list of relevant literature. The present bibliography will help in literature search, in knowing various aspects of IR, which are not yet paid enough attention to. The bibliography will also be useful in avoiding duplications in research of IR." (jacket)
