“Environment has changed significantly during past two centuries. There is marked increase in concentration of green house gases like carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere and various pollutants are posing threat to plant and human life. We have altered the natural ecosystem making the plant, animal and human life miserable. Our planet is warming up, there is climate change and depletion of ozone layer. Vehicular pollution in urban areas is responsible for increasing cases of Asthma and pulmonary diseases. To highlight the “Eco-degradation Due to Air Pollution”, a national seminar was organized by Indian Association for Air Pollution Control on Sixteenth October 2004 at Vadodara. The present book includes the chapters on green belt, eco-technology, eco-auditing, town planning, air pollution control, use of nanotechnology in pollution control, causes of pollution on health of kids. Pollution due to stone crushing units, biopollutants like fungi and bacteria in markets, affecting museum materials and monuments, biomonitoring, bioremediation and effect of pollution on breeding of birds were also discussed and compiled in this volume. The book not only provides first hand information on degradation of environment both materials and human health but solutions suggested can be effectively used by planners and industrial houses alike to reduce the damage caused by air pollutants. When we are working for Blue Planet Earth and preparing master plan for sustainable cities more such studies will be highly useful.” (jacket)
