"Horticulture has a special significance for the economic development, especially of the hilly regions. Most of the people, though hard working and face the calamities of nature and live in harsh conditions, yet produce lot of fruits, vegetables and other flowering and ornamental plants including the medicinal and aromatic plants. In order to increase the productivity of horticultural crops growers must take the advantage of the expertise of scientists. Keeping this idea in focus, the present book has been compiled which contains experiences of the scientists and guidelines for the farmers to boost their economy apart from maintaining the ecology of the hills and plains. The book covers advances in strategies, production, plant protection, value addition and other important areas of horticulture development." (jacket)
