"The book is a result of Indo-French Rock Art Project sponsored by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the arts. The aim of the project was to devise an international basic approach to rock art to deal with dating, ethnographical and conservation aspect.

The excavation at Jhiri Rock Shelters were conducted by the Indian team led by the author, the results of which are detailed in this book, while the preliminary report on rock art study carried out by the French team has also been incorporated.

The joint effort has resulted in reaching important conclusions which will be of benefit to scholars and students in the field of rock art." (jacket)
