"In order to proceed efficiently and with dispatch toward any goal it is essential that the goal be known. Furthermore, attainment which will be educationally satisfactory is only possible if the end to be gained is worthy; it is not sufficient to attain just any one goal. Consequently, the physical educator, in addition to one having adequate aims, must have worth-while objectives and know how to cause them to be achieved. Except for an illustration which points out the relationship of the pursuit of objectives to instruction centered in an activity class, the matter of attainment will be considered in subsequent chapters. It is the major purpose of this chapter to set up pupil attainment objectives upon which a sound system of physical education can be based." (jacket)
