"Benazir Bhutto was the first woman Prime Minister elected to lead a post-colonial Muslim state. Bhutto went into self-imposed exile in Dubai in 1998, where she remained until she returned to Pakistan on October 18, 2007, after reaching an understanding with General Musharraf by which she was granted amnesty and all corruption charges were withdrawn. After spending eight years in exile in Dubai and London, Bhutto returned to Karachi in October 2007 to prepare for the 2008 general elections. Her PPP rally on 27 December 2007 was a grand success. After the rally, she congratulated her party workers standing in bullet-proof white Mercedes. Seconds later, an unidentified gunman fired three bullets, two of  which lodged in her head suggesting the sniper was no rookie. A suicide bomber then exploded himself spreading mayhem and panic. There have been several assassination attempts also on Bhutto in the past. Her assassination has shocked the people of Pakistan and the whole world.
