In the recent age, Distance Learning, or Distance Education is not a future possibility for which higher education must prepare. It is a current reality reality new opportunities and challenges for educational institutions. Distance education mode is becoming a more vital part of the higher education. It reaches a broader student audience, better addresses student needs, saves money, and more importantly uses the principles of modern learning pedagogy. Association of Indian Universities has rightly observed that, "The existing model of higher education, requiring selective learning over a specified periods is being replaced by a model of life time learning for all. UNESCO too highlighted as this has become necessary because of the changing nature of jobs which now require continuous renewal and updating of knowledge and skills.
