Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials, that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or cause damage to the natural environment or built environment, into the atmosphere. The atmosphere is a complex dynamic natural gaseous system that is essential to support life on planet earth. Stratospheric ozone depletion, due to air pollution has long been recognized, as a threat to human health, as well as to the earth\'s ecosystems. Indoor air pollution and urban air quality are listed, as two of the world\'s worst pollution problems. Air supplies us with oxygen, which is essential for our bodies to live. Air is 99.9% nitrogen, oxygen, water vapour and inert gases. Human activities can release substances into air, some of which can cause problems for humans, plants and animals. There are several main types of pollution and well-known effects of pollution, which are commonly discussed. Air pollution can affect our health in many ways, with both short-term and long-term effects.

This volume studies all relevant themes of air pollution and strategies for its control. This is a painstakingly prepared research based work taking all relevant aspects and dimensions of the subject in a comprehensive, exclusive and exhaustive manner. This meritorious study is an asset for all scholars, researchers, social activists and of course, the general readers. (jacket)
