"The volume has been designed to make available comprehensive material in tribal development in rural life. Tribals are more backward compared with the general population and the Scheduled Caste. Tribal constitute 8 per cent of the national population but about 40 percent of displaced persons. Tribals live in forests and mountains somewhat isolated from the general population because of this have been called Girijan and Vanvasi. Tribals suffer from poverty and occupational, conditions, illiteracy, landless agricultural labours, work participation, agricultural resources and so on.

Tribal development should be operated in terms of land, water and plantation in the same order from ensuring the command of their resources which the tribal community used to enjoy. To save ecology and upgrade the environment, generated the natural resources is the sine qua-non for the development of tribal regions." (jacket)
