Child Development And Protection

The student of child development should be aware of the large number of research institutions devoted to child study. This section will give a brief overview of some work already done at these institutions. They are constantly producing research of interest to both parents and teachers. The student who desires to do advanced study or who wants to become more familiar with some of the basic research in the field might obtain from these institutes information regarding their current research or a bibliography of their publications. Some of the earliest growth studies were those started by W. Dearborn at Harvard in 1922. The Harvard Growth Study gave both mental and physical tests annually from the time of entrance into first grade until completion of high school to one of the largest school populations studied up to that time.
