"Child psychology has expanded at an accelerating pace in the last decades. As a result of this rapid-growth, it is increasingly difficult to offer a comprehensive definition of child psychology. We have chosen instead to present a series of examples from the wide range of research activities that are subsumed under the child psychology label.

Unlike earlier approaches, contemporary child psychology is no longer only a description of age-related changes; rather, it is concerned with the processes that produce and account for these changes. It is this emphasis on the processes of development that best characterises the current field. This study is organised around these processes of development." (jacket)
