Medicinal Plants occupy an important position in the socio-economic, cultural, spiritual and medical arena of rural people of India. Their sustainable cultivation, management and harvesting can conserve biodiversity, sustain human and environmental health, generate employment, income and export earnings.

Majority of the Indian population is still depending on the agriculture sector and its contribution in our national income has been decreasing continuously. The yield from agriculture sector is not remunerative and the farmers need to rethink on their various opportunities. In this context, an attempt has been made to study in-depth on the focused objectives such as the socio-economic background of the cultivators of the medicinal plants; the financial sources, costs of cultivation of medicinal plants and its output and marketing, employment and income generation and finally its impact on their families by the cultivation of medicinal plants.
