The Defence budget of China is the portion of the overall budget of China that is allocated for the funding of the military of China. This Defence budget finances employee salaries and training costs, the maintenance of equipment and facilities, support of new or ongoing operations, and development and procurement of new weapons, equipment, and vehicles. Every March, as part of its annual state budget, China releases a single overall figure for national Defence expenditures. Defence of the ruling regime has always been the core of China’s vision of national Defence, making Internal Defence the most critical component of China’s national security thinking and practice. This mind set was further reinforced by the fact that the Communist Party of China and liberated China from another national regime, the Guomintang, making them further suspicious of internal threats and challenges. China’s emergence as a global economic superpower, and as a major regional military power in Asia and the Pacific, has had a major impact on its relations with the United State and its neighbors.
