The forced displacement of people for the purpose of various developmental projects has been going on for a long time. Large development schemes like dams, mines, industrial plants and wild life sanctuaries cause large scale land acquisition and force dislocation. However, the rehabilitation of project affected families has been a very tardy and inefficient process. The present book, which draws material from an empirical study, explains the different aspects of displacement and rehabilitation. The book also appraises the socio-economic consequences of displacement and analyses the rehabilitation policies of the government.
