"The emergence of World Trade Organisation (WTO) has changed the world economic order. Economies of the world are opening up and integrating with each other. India too has shelved the earlier protectionist policy and opened up the economy to the world market.
Globalisation refers to widening and deepening of international flow of trade, capital, labour, technology, information and services. It involves liberalisation of national and global markets in the belief that it will result in higher growth rate and human welfare. Globalisation is not a end point, but a beginning for an enlarged process. It warrants liberalisation and privatisation of native economies. India too has adopted the path of liberalisation and consequently both positive and negative impacts of globalisation on the economy have been felt. It has been persistently a debatable issue over the losses and gains of globalisation on Indian economy.
The last decade of the 20 century witnessed the emergence of an all-pervasive global information infrastructure, commonly referred to as the internet or the World Wide Web. This new medium of information and communication has revolutionized the work culture and living styles of human beings.
Business environment in India is changing fast, bringing new opportunities as well as posing challenges. Economic liberalization and globalisation have created keen interest in foreign investors resulting in comfortable foreign currency reserves, stability of Indian Rupee, vibrant stock market and expanding financial and services sector.
The present volume contains finding of eminent scholars and young researches on issues crucial to the contemporary business and economy in India. The book contains 42 articles which have been organised into four parts.
Part I is devoted to opportunities offered and challenges posed by the globalisation of the world economy. Part II deals with the management of human resources in the wake of new economic order. Part III relates to marketing of services in the context of revolution in information technology. Part IV focuses on the changing face of management functions following liberalisation of world economies." (jacket)
