From the preface: "Everybody needs guidance and counselling in dealing with a variety of problems and at various stages of lives. Guidance is more important in the early years of the children, when they start going to school. These are the years most of their future attitudes in life take shape. This period is also a transition from home to school, which requires adjustments in the school. Environment of the school may be quite different from that of home. Hence, there is importance of guidance and counselling at this stage.

Even though the basics of guidance and counselling are generally the same in all contexts, there will be difference when it comes to specific situations. The approach and technique of guidance in dealing with small child may differ from those in case of adults.

This book attempts to cover a number of topics relating to procedures, processes, methods and techniques of guidance and counselling, which would be helpful for teachers, counsellors, and students. Apart from providing a theoretical background in a simple language, the book illustrates numerous examples and discussions of real life situations."
