"The Government of India has initiated a number of welfare measures for the benefit of the disabled in the form of establishing institutions and launching schemes for their socio-economic development. One such scheme is creation of special employment exchanges and cells for registering the disabled and to sponsor them to suitable employment and training. The findings are presented in 10 chapters. The contents of the book refer to the welfare programmes, schemes launched for the disabled in India, administrative structure of the employment exchange, profile of the employment exchange officers, registered disabled and employed disable and preferences of the employment of the disabled. In addition, it also describes the functioning of the employment exchanges in terms of sponsoring for employment, its performance as viewed by the functionaries and target and problems of the employment exchanges. Lastly provides recommendations for improving its quality of services.
The findings of the study will help the administrators to understand the problems, strengths and weaknesses of the exchanges and provide tips for strengthening them to cater to the needs of the disabled effectively." (jacket)
