"For many years our country remained under the British rule and was exploited to its apex. Agriculture was also in very bad condition. They exploited the peasants. Our traditional industries particularly handicrafts were destroyed. The condition of many people became worse. The history of modern industrial growth in India dates back to about last 150 years which got acceleration during the post independence period. The government of India followed a five year plans in view of agricultural, industrial and over all development of the country. Besides Five Year Plans a number of steps have been taken by the government to make India agriculturally and industrially well-developed. Industrial development is now a days considered as precondition for modern economic development." (jacket)
