“It hardly needs to be emphasized that the environment has assumed the highest priority on the world agenda and the major global environment concerns which we are facing today can not be overlooked any longer. The depletion of the ozone layer, increase in the level of carbon dioxide (global warming), and acid rains are the most serious environmental issues facing as today.

Modern industrial activities have severely interfered with the natural environment either through deforestation or through discharge of solid and liquid effluents and gaseous emissions. Power generation, though important in achieving economic self-reliance, its interface with the natural surroundings has led to serious concern the world over. The establishment of industries of such large magnitude brings about undesirable alternations that often fail to merge with nature. We must, therefore, realize that the survival of mankind depends on a balanced growth of adequate generation of power and sustenance of the environment.

We must, therefore, understand that neither the development can be stopped not the environmental issues can be neglected. Both will have to go together in all times to come. So, certain sharp technologies with specific instrument will have to be evolved which can provide development at the minimum environmental cost.

This book is a unique compilation of most recent research articles of eminent environmental scientists which will be helpful for students, research scholars, professors as well as policy makers in achieving the long cherished dream of sustainable development.”
