This book underscores the development impact on the environment of the tribal area and find out the ways for ecological sustainable development. The book also deliberates on the concept of environmental justice within the framework of the environmental laws which have multi-dimensional facets. Besides, the book also discusses the constitutional commitment towards environmentalism, under the fundamental rights, directive principles of state policies and fundamental duties, endeavouring to protect the environment and continuously improve its status for present and future generations without the deleterious invasion of pollution, environmental degradation and ecological imbalance. The environment legal system, including the development and various principles of the environmental laws, has also been discussed. The book studies the major causes of the environment degradation after analysing the public perceptions in detail alongwith suggestions to curb the degradation of the pristine nature and environment in the Western Himalayan region.
Against this backdrop, the book is very timely, for, at present, the rate of environment degradation within this fragile and vulnerable tribal land is escalating day-by-day. This book is the first of its kind, brought out with regard to the development and enforcement of the environment legal system within the state of Himachal Pradesh and with a view to having a deep insight into the various nuances of ecological developments in this part of the Western Himalayas. The identified gaps, as portrayed in the book, may enable the people of the tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh and other stakeholders to keep themselves abreast of the ground realities and to stimulate them to make a concerted endeavour in a time-bound manner to improve the situation before it is too late.
