Indian was a latecomer to economic reforms, embarking on the process in earnest only in 1991. Liberalization of FDI policy was an important aspect of the reforms. This thereby resulted in an increase in the total inflow of FDI in the country. FDI is important as it has the potential to transfer knowledge and technology, create jobs boost competitiveness and eradicate poverty through economic growth and development.

FDI has been coming into the country in various sectors like services, computer, telecommunication, power, automobile, etc. Certain sectors like infrastructure, retail, insurance, etc. still need higher inflow of FDI. In the present volume semi log model, regression analysis, correlation coefficients, gini coefficient, etc. have been used to study the trends of FDI in India and it’s impact on the economy.
