The present book entitled “Fundamental Duties: A Touchstone of Constitutional Mirror” is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter which introduces the subject matter and defines the scope of the book. Chapter second deals with the concept of duties under different religions, Kinds of duties and the relationship that exists between rights and duties. The third chapter discusses evolution of duties in the Indian perspective starting from Vedic ages and this chapter also discusses the criteria for identification of value system. The fourth chapter elaborately deals with duties under different international instruments and also under different Constitutions of the world. The fifth chapter deals exclusively with the available legal setting in India and the several national commissions established for the enforcement of fundamental duties in India. The sixth chapter discusses the enforcement of fundamental duties and the eleven commandments including the recently added one. The judicial interpretation of the subject finds a place in this chapter. Standards of public life, awareness and inculcation of values for implementing the fundamental duties have been discussed in the seventh chapter. This chapter also discusses the report of the Verma committee which was constituted to work out a strategy for operationalising country wise programme, for teaching fundamental duties in education institutions. The final chapter comes out with concluding remarks including certain important suggestions. (jacket)
