"War in the modern times is not exclusively the affairs of the armed forces, but is an issue of universal concern. Precisely, it is the actual assessment of moral, material and human strength of confrontational nations. A nation\'s war impending and its armed forces constitutes its power to wage a war at any given time. So to look at national security and economic development in their total symbolic relationship national defence and national security of a nation is very important. We have experienced one war with China and three wars with Pakistan. Moreover, the extent and nature of China\'s defence management and unresolved border dispute with it and its impact on India\'s security cannot be ignored. On the other hand Pakistan\'s continued support to extremists in Kashmir region and other parts of India remained a major security threat to India. The responsibility on armed forces is extremely compelling and demanding; at the same time government is committed to the upliftment of its citizens. In this context it is the need of the hour to study the impact of war finance on Indian economy. All this and much more are discussed in this book."
