"Agriculture plays a vital role in shaping the economy. It is engine of growth in India economy. The life and culture of the Indian people depend upon it to great extent. In agriculture sector 59 percent of the total workforce of the country depends and its share in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is 22 percent. The study of the growth and diversification of agriculture is very important for India. Several five year plans were launched concentrating on growth in output. Several institutional changes have taken place viz. Land reforms, consolidation of holdings, restructuring credit institutions, remodeling Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), etc.
