This book is mainly concerned with Jats, who formed the main caste group among the Kisans of Western Rajasthan. The changing fortunes of Jats is traced from the late seventeenth to the early part of the nineteenth century. The book attempts to locate the Jats in the history of Western Rajasthan. In a limited way the significance of society, family, kinship, gender relations and role of Panchayat in Jat way of life is also dealt with in the book.
