The book delineates precisely the growth of Indian horticulture in the recent past, the role this sector has played in alleviating the malnutrition and income raising and its contribution in overall agricultural GDP of the nation. The role of technologies, be it related to production, development of varieties, use of plastics in crop raising, fertigation, mechanization or crop protection is presented in a simple way. The various roles of biotechnology in horticultural crop improvement in providing superior quality planting material or use of diagnostics to ascertain the health of propagates have been explained in user friendly manner. In view of the changing global market scenario vis-a-vis the strength of Indian horticulture, the new set of strategies and possible ways of their effective adoption has been illustrated theme wise. The most important of them all, among the challenges, is the climate change which has been dealt specifically for its impact on tropical, subtropical or temperate horticulture with special reference to India. The growing role of ICT in trading of horticultural commodities is also highlighted. The content of the book is aimed to benefit researchers, teachers, students and various stakeholders.
