The term science derives from the latin world scientia meaning knowledge. It is the study, description experimental investigation and theoretical explanation of the nature and behaviour of phenomenon in the physical and natural world. Indeed, today, when the term science is used it excludes even technology. Technology uses science for human purposes, but science is an unbiased study of the real world. Science usually proceeds by inventing hypothesis and systematically testing them against observation and experiment.

As far as the word technology is concerned, it derives from the word technologies meaning systematic treatment of an art. It mechanises the principles of science. It is the application of science usually for the industrial process. it is closely related to engineering. Science and technology have always been a part of development process in every field. In the modern world, science and technology have become indispensable. The role of science and technology in the development of a country is at times so obvious can be observed in USA, UK, Japan, China etc. Apart from the large scale application in industry and factory, scientific principles have been applied in agriculture to increase and improve the crops. Health is directly influenced by the discoveries of science and technology. The role of science and technology is of special importance in a developing country like India. They have shaped and reshaped India over the years. They have played a great role to control and eradicate the diseases like plague and smallpox. They helped India in the development, electronics, nuclear energy, space exploration, oceanography, etc. Only by this help, India reaches to the moon. At last we tried out best to cover all the topics, stipulated in the syllabus.
